This illustration is based on the fable Fox and Crow by Aesop. It depicts the moment when the sly fox tricks the proud crow into dropping his cheese by challenging the crow's singing voice. The composition was partly inspired by the sweeping banners of H. J. Ford's illustrations in Andrew Lang's Fairy Books. The colors are done in watercolor and the inking is done digitally.
